Who I Am

My name is Helen Lianos and my sweet little girl is Bubby. Welcome to Learning Mecca and thank you for taking the time to read a little about us.

I decided to start Learning Mecca so I could share my love of learning with students, parents and other teachers. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher. My mum used to say that from the age of 3, she used to stand outside my bedroom and listen to me talking to my imaginary students - I had a whole classroom in there!

Let me tell you a little about my journey here.

I started off by completing a Bachelor of Education from Sydney University and working as a Primary School Teacher in the Southern suburbs of Sydney. Then, along with two family members, I built and ran a Long Day Care Centre and Preschool in Liverpool. Following this, I worked at TAFE teaching adults who wanted to work as Child Care Workers. I then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Monash University and a Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology with First Class Honours from Charles Sturt University. At the completion of my Honours Degree, my research on Cyberbullying in Young People was published in an international journal called, Crime and Delinquency. Finally, I began working on my Masters in Professional Psychology at the University of New England.

What all these qualifications and work experience tell you is that I am passionate about teaching and love learning how to help children, young people and adults achieve their best life, by believing in themselves and making the most of their talents and gifts.

After completing my various courses and working in many different roles I decided I would like to focus my efforts on tutoring children and young people. I also express my creative side by making educational resources which help students learn in a fun and interactive way but are also popular with teachers.

The end result: I decided to combine all these different parts of my personality into a business.

As you have probably guessed I am a dog lover who adores her little Toy Cavoodle, Bubby. She has her own dedicated blog on this website, so please check out her cute photos and take in a little of her wisdom. I really believe dogs and pets in general, make us better human beings and teach us a lot about ourselves. I also enjoy being out in nature, reading, watching scary horror movies and learning about the spiritual side of life. I am a big believer in creating or manifesting a wonderful life by being positive, having fun and focusing on all the wonderful things in life. Looking at what is wrong, only creates more of the same - so my focus is always on what is pleasing and working well. This is my philosophy when I teach as well. When people feel good about themselves they learn better.

I hope that one day we get to meet.
